QUEST FOR A FILM STAR

WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL SELECTIONS

The photographs above represent four of the semi-finalists in the Wellington Provincial t , sectlon p of quest for a film star by the First National (Aust.), Ltd., on behalf of the Producers Corporation. The contest so far as New Zealand is con cerned is a provincial one, in which a selection of the most suitable of the contestants are chosen froin each pro vince by the Casting Director the selection being made on the photographs and details suppbed. Those then chosen come to a centre (Weflington >n this m stance), and appear for one week at one of the theatres (the Britannia in Wellington) and a judging comm ttee will choose seven finalists. These seven go to Auckland for the Dominion final. The winner of this (all expenses paid for herself and chaperon) gets a trip to via Sydney, to contest against the finalists from the various States of Australia. The final winner of th, “Australasian” Contest, as it is styled, gets a ten weeks engagement in the P.D.C. pictures at Hollywood at a salary of £2O a week; a part being provided in a production by Cecil de Mille. All the expenses of the trip to Hollywood, including those of a chaperon, are paid and also, if required, the expenses of the return trip. Continuance of the engagement depends upon the success of the performance given. . Photographs of the remaining semi-finalists in the Wellington Province will be published each day until the list is completed.
