REVIVAL OF A LOST ART. Dominion Special. Wanganui, January 2'2. Older folk of up-river Maori settlements are greatly enthused at the resumption of canoe races on the \\ a, lg a ; nui River. Since Hie steamers and oil launches have commenced to ply up and down stream the familiar canoes were laid aside; many have rotted along the batiks, others have suffered the indignitv of having oil engines installed as tlie propelling power. Ihe elders have from time to time spoken to the vounger generation of their settlements wlio have known only steam and oil of the “good old days,” and after a lapse of thirty rears they are delighted bevond measure at the return —if for exhibition and competition purposes onlv—to the original methods.
