SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Our Nelson correspondent reports the death of Elizabeth Ann Allan, wiife of Mr. Robert Allan, a well known retired ‘business man. Mrs. P. Isaac, of Wellington, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Isaac, Auckland, has returned to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. T. Madden and Mr. and Mrs. Anyoii, of Wellington, are in Christchurch. Dr.- and Mrs. McEvedy and their daughters, have been visiting the South Island. Mrs. Gerald Wcstenra has returned to Christchurch after a short visit to Wellington. ■ Miss Nell Buddo, ' who has been spending some weeks at Heretaunga, has returned south. Mr. and Mrs. G. Clarkson, of Christchurch, are visiting Wellington.

Miss Bicknell, Director of Nursing, has returned to Wellington from the south.

The Misses P. and 11. Wallace, of Patmerston North, are spending a holiday in Auckland and are at Stonehurst.

Mrs. Vivian (Dunedin) who has been visiting friends in the North Island, arrived in Wellington on Tuesday and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Mclntosh. ,

The engagement is announced of Miss Gwen Scott,- daughter of Mrs Scott, of Overton Terrace, to Mr. A. G. .Williamson, younger son of. Mr. Williamson, of Pitt Street, Wadestown.

Mrs. Algie and family, of Palmerston North, accompanied by Miss Jenkins, Kimbolton, are spending a holiday in Wellington.

The “at bonie” at Port Dorset, arranged by the officers and men of the 15th Battery in aid of the Artillery queen, Miss Eileen Norwood, was very successful. There was a demonstration of gun firing, a display of athletics, side shows, and afternoon tea. The committee worked very hard in order to make things a success, and were kept busy all the afternoon selling ice cream and looking after the tea. Among those presen*' who are working for the queen were Mrs. Abel, Mrs. Synion. Mrs. Fenton, Mrs. .Stewart, Mrs. Horton, Mrs. J. W. Brown, Mrs. J. Wright, Mrs. Parton, Mrs. Mainland, Mrs. McLellan, Mrs A. McVicar, Miss Edna Norwood, Miss I. Searle, Miss F. George, and Mrs. Calder.

Auckland-Wellington Wedding. A picturesque wedding took place, at St. Luke’s Church, Remuera, Auckland, on Thursday evening, when Runa Rose Larner, younger daughter of ISIr. and Mrs. V.'j. Larner, of Remuera, was married to Mr. Robert Graham Buckleton ( elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Buckleton, of Oriental Bay, Wellington. The Rev. J. A. Thomson performed the ceremony. The bride, who entered the clturch on the arm of her father., a frock of silver lace over soft hyacinth blue georgette, the deep flared skirt appliqued in delicate orchid pink roses, the same touch being carried out on the left shoulder. Caught to the head by a bandeau of orange blossom over blue tulle, her beautiful veil of hyacinth blue formed the train, the sides and end bordered with silver and finished with appliqued roses to match the frock. A bouquet of pale pink sweet peas and delphiniums completed the bridal toilette. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean B uckleton, sister of the brideg-oom, and Miss Susie Austin, who were dressed alike in frocks of shot blue and silver silk taffetas, with vandyked flared skirts of silver lace over flesh-coloured georgette. Ihcir becoming hats were of blue crinoline straw to tone, trimmed with silver tulle, and silver baskets of pale pink malmaisones and sweet peas were suspended by silver ribbons from the shoulder. Dr. Chisholm McDowell tyas best man, and Mr. J. Buckleton, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents, the rooms being decorated with masses of lovelv blue delphiniums and carnations, and in the drawing room wedding presents were on view. Mrs. Larner’s frock was of black georgette, heavily beaded in moonstones and studded with jet. Her hat was of black crinoline straw, with a silver tissue brim caught at the left side with a bird of Paradise plume, and she carried a bouquet of pale pink orchids, sweet peas, and maidenhair fern. Airs. Buckleton, mother of the bridegroom, wore a frock of orchid tissue, with an overdress of silver and orchid lace to tone, caught at the waist with jewelled ornaments. A black hat of crinoline straw with orchid coloured flowers completed the toilette. Mrs. W. A. Graham, grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a frock of amethyst crepe de chine, with beautiful cream lace motifs, and a hat to tone with ospreys. Airs. Barry Wake, sister of the brid. 1 , wore black lace, with a dee]) border of cornflower blue and silver lace, and a black crinoline straw hat. with black and white ospreys. Mrs. G. C. .Sharpe, sister of the bridegroom, wore white georgette, with petalled skirt in apple green, beaded in silver-, and a bandeau of green tulle to tone. Airs. A. Innes Walker, sister of the bridegroom, wore scarlet crepe de chine, bordered in crystal, and a black crinoline hat, with beige lace. AT THE RACES ANNIVERSARY DAY GATHERING As was to be expected the patronage at the Trentham racecourse on Anniversary Day was very large. Judging by the motor parks, the members, and public ones, every car in Wellington seemed to be present, but there were still a few left to take the families out to the beaches tor picnics. Although the day did not promise too well, the weather at Trentham was beautifully warm, but not sunny and everyone could enjoy the races without the discomfort of a strong sun. Perhaps, because of this, the frockitig did not seem as gay as on the opening day, coats were 'more in evidence and the bright parasols were not needed. The lawns, however, were ■ a mass of people at all times, and there were many lovely frocks to be seen among the ’ladies. The president, Mr. J.. B. Harcourt, as usual, entertained a large party at lunch and afternoon tea. Miss Harcourt wore a rust brown suit and small hat to tone. . Mrs. Gillon was in a semi-tailored suit of dahlia colour with rope of pearls. Miss Skerrett wore a, black silk coat and coloured hat. Mrs. Post, ensemble of deep blue and hat to match; Mrs. A. Gray, black satin with white fringes; Mrs. Elgar, black lace and broad brimmed hat with pink velvet ribbon; Airs. 11.
