DOMINION LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ANNEXED BY GOODWIN Palmerston North, January 21 The Manawatu Motor Club’s annual meeting was held at Ashhurst to-day in perfect weather. Competitors were present from all parts of the. Durninion and a number of keen finishes delighted the public, of whom there was a large attendance. Many of New Zealand’s prominent riders took part in the events, which were run without accident of any kind. The outstanding race of the day was for the New Zealand Light-weight Championship, which C. Goodwill, of Auckland, won in fine stvle. Taking the lead in the second lap', he finished 100 yards ahead of the second man. In the evening the trophies were presented to the successful competitors at tne Motor Club s dance. Detailed results are as follow:

ASHHURST HANDICAP, 7 miles B Class Machines.—H. Morgan 2 t Har-ley-Davidson (Greytown) lOsec., 1; R. Paton, 3J Norton (Kairanga), 35sec., and D. Smith, 4 Norton (Colyton), tied for second place. Time, 7min. 5a l-ssec. Won by several lengths. Morgan made the most of his handicap and w r as never headed. Pat© ll an< ! Smith both took turns at leading and both strove hard in the straight for second place Neither, however, could get ahead of the other, and both had to share the honours. Harvey fell early in the race and did not complete. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP (12 miles, open).—D. Smith, 4 No rt ° u (Colvton), 145 sec., 1; W. H. Birkett, 31 Norton (Wanganui), 170 sec.„ 2; W. Viggars, 2} Chater-Lea (Wellington), 130 sec., 3. Time 12min. 3 3-usec. Coleman and Maugham found their handicaps too much lor them, but neverthelss rode well and made up a lot of ground. Won by a furlong, third man 100 yards behind. Coleman’s fastest lap was the fifth, which was covered in 52 seconds—69 miles per hour. There were 20 starters

GORGE SIDE-CAR HANDICAP, 5 miles, open.—Kellener, 7 HarleyDavidson (lOsec), 1. Time, Bmm. 22 3-ssec. Three starters. NEW ZEALAND LIGHT-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP, 8 miles, for machines up to 350 c.c.-C. Goodwin, 2} O.E.C. (Auckland), 1; C. D. Walker, 2| A.J.S. (Auckland), 2; L. B. South7min. 55 3-ssec. Goodwin took the ward, 2f A.J.S. (Wellington), 3. Time, lead in the second lap, and thereafter was never headed, save half-way through the last lap, when Walker accelerated, but Goodwin had plenty of speed in reserve, and rode in the winner by 100 yards. Southward, the third man, was a quarter of a lap away. There w’ere 14 starters. RELAY RACE, 9 miles.—Red (Morgan Harrison, and Mangham), 1; icilow’(Pearson, Smith, Ranby), 2. Time, Bmiu. 51 l-ssec. There were four etftries, but only the two placed teams finished. Harrison brought one-third of a lap start to Mangham, and the latter increased it to half a lap.
