CARDBOARD AND LEATHER SOLES
BOOTMAKER FINED FOR OMITTING STAMP.
That he exposed unstamped footwear for sale was admitted by W. Corrona, boot manufacturer, of Adelaide Road, in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. “The soles of these boots consist of a thin layer of leather and then cardboard, and as soon as they get wet they fall to pieces. There is nothing to prevent his making such shoddy: so long as he stamps them 'leather and cardboard.’” said the inspector of awards (Mr. R. T. Bailey). Defendant stated that he was not aware that. it was necessary for him to stamp the goods. Mr. Bailey said that defendant, who had been conducting the business since the death of his father, had been informed of the requirements of the Act in August, 1926. Mr. E. Page, S.M., imposed a fine of £lO, the maximum penalty.
