STRIPPING TONNAGE
NOT AS EXCESSIVE AS PESSIMISTS ASSERT. London, December 29. Sir Walter Runciman, president of the Chamber of Shipping, writing to the "Glasgow Herald,” denies that shipping tonnage is as excessive as pessimists assert. "We are approaching,” he savs. “a stage where cargo will barely suffice to keep efficient tonnage fullv employed. A cessation of immoderate .building for a year or two, coupled with trading activity, should adjust the balance.”
