TRAGEDY IN WANGANUI RIVER By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, December 30. Two sisters, Mavis and Thy-ra Dette, aged 12 and 11 vears respectively, were dtowned at Victory Bridge, Wanganui River. A large party of children were bathing and all had left the water except Mavis Dette, who was observed to be in difficulties Her sister Thyra attempted to rescue here, but both went under and were drowned Thvra’s bodv was recovered quickly bv a voung man, William Capper, who was called to’ the scene, but life was extinct. Later the body of Mavis was recovered.
