SWIMMING
WELLINGTON CENTRE. At a meeting of the Wellington Gentre, N.Z.A.S.A., the programme for the No. 23 carnival on January 15 was approved of. This carnival will include the following AVellington championships: —looyds. men’s Wellington championship; 440yds. men’s Wellington championship; 220yds. men’s breast-stroke; 100yds. ladies’ Wellington championship. As no further advice has been received from th* New Zealand Council, it is presumed that the Australian ladies, owing to not being able to get away in time, will not appear at this carnival, but at a later date to be arranged. The diving, plain and fancy and novelties will be of a first-class variety, and tho polo will be a source of interest. The ladies’ races should bring >
good entries. Championship . matters were discussed and left to be finalised at the next centre meeting. Remits were forwarded to the council for discussion at coming conference at" Auckland; the Wellington representatives to be Messrs. P. N. Rundle. P. Coira, and R. Smith. Officials available for Auckland are Mr. P. N. Rundle judge, Mr. P. Coira, diving judge; and Mr. R. Smith, starter or starter’s steward. W. Hicks will again dive for Wellington at the championships. _ The AVorser Bay programme and list of officials were approved of. Mr. E. King, who is conversant with all the swimmers, was elected a permanent judge of swimming at carnivals. Rix Trott’s time for the 220yds. swim at Te Aro Baths on December 18 has been recorded as a centre record. * . The Tepid Baths question was again discussed, and it is understood that arrangements arc to bo made for another meeting with the council on the subject. ■
