HOME FOR AGED NEEDY
The Home for tlie Aged Needy, with its numerous inmates, ranging in age from 73 years to 94 years on the women’s side, and 90 years on the men’s, with an average of well oyer 80 years, were not forgotten during the Christmas celebrations. Ou Christmas Eve they were visited by a company of nurses from the Wellington Hospital, organised by the matron. Miss Stott, who sang a number of carols, which were much appreciated. On Christmas Day the usual arrangenients were carried out, a host of good things being provided. The inmates had quite a good time, each one being the recipient of some useful and suitable gift. . , ~ At the Christmas dinner table the chairman, Mr. G. Petherick, J.P., who was accompanied by Mrs. B. Hirst, one of the trustees, took the opportunity, on behalf of the trust, to convey to the guests the season’s greetings. Be also referred to the excellent way _in which the staff, under the direction of the matron, Miss Mackay, had performed its part, and of the appreciation of all concerned. At his call three heartv cheers were given by the aged folk for the staff. Cheers were also given the chairman and tlie trustees. , , , , Mrs. Hirst, on behalf of the lady members of the board, tendered greetings to the gathering. ’ , During the day the members of the Berhampore Baptist Bible Classes sang carols, and for an hour tn the afternoon the Aolian Quartet gave a, most acceptable programme. Christmas, 1926, proved one of the best in the History of the home.
