BUCKLE STREET CONVENT

ANNUAL CONCERT AND PRIZE-GIVING

The Concert Chamber of the Town Hall as crowded on Thursday on the occasion of the annual concert by the pupils of the Buckle Street Convent. The outstanding items of a bright entertainment were dainty playlets, which were cleverly presented by the pupils. The first one presented was "The Princess and the Swineherd," a delightful adaptation of Hans Andersen’s fairy tale, in which the characters were sustained by Nancy Whiterod, Petty Nissen, Vera Sullivan, Marie Connole, Kathleen Hackett, Mary McCarthy, Ada Fary, - Kathleen Harrington. Rima Martin, and Stella de Souza. Equally charming was the play, "Christmas Decides,” in which some bright acting was done by Lilian Taylor, Margaret Fitzgibbon, Kathleen Peters. Nora Harrington, Nora Hooker. Ruth Grant, Cecilia Johnston, Maureen White, Adelaide Hogqn. Another dainty little playlet was Bluebeard." the characters in which were capably sustained by Mary Peters, Stella de Souza, Letty Nissen, Kathleen Peteis, Kathleen Hackett. , It as left, however, to the fairy play, "A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to arouse the greatest enthusiasm. in this the parts were nicely taken by Mary Galloway, Zona Parkinson, Kitty Edwards. Mnry Donovan, Margaret I'itzgibbon, Statia Johnston, Betty McNamara, Patricia Johnston, Rnna Martin, Marv Peters. Irish McKavanagh, Eileen Hanson. Betty Ryan, Molly Ryan, Iris King, Tessy Connole, Annie Blewman, Merle McKavanagh, Dorothy London. In addition to the play, a concert programme was submitted, which relented the highest credit upon the ability of tho sisters of the convent as teachers. The programme included: • Piano solo, "Rustle of Spring” (Binding), Peggy Lander: chorus, "Ave Maria’ .(Gounod), senior girls; solo, "Fairy Tales of Ireland” (T.ockton), Zona Parkinson; chorus, "Cuddle Doon," infant girls; chorus, "Come Back to Erin” (Moore), senior girls; dance duo, “Minuet," Jean Brady and Patricia Nolan; song, “The Dear Homeland” (Binghnm), Doris Simpson and Zona Parkinson; chorus, "I Really Feel that I Must Yawn” (Charles Worth), infant boys; carol, "Christmas Bells." The part singing was exceptionally good, the work of the senior girls being quite exceptional. Miss Helen Hart made a faithful accompanist.

Nancy Whiterod, Mnry Galloway, and Letty Nissen• elocution, seniors, first prize, Alary Galloway; second prize.
