SWIMMING

CARNIVAL AT TE ARO BATHS. Keen interest is being displayed in tomorrow afternoon’s carnival at the Te Aro baths when the local centre will stage a new championship event. This is over a distance of 56 yards and all the speedy sprinter have entered. Record time is expected to be established if conditions are favourable. Another excellent contest will bo the 220 yards handicap in which the distance swimmers will appear. J. Hix-Trott is swimming in gerat style at present, and together with N. Batchelor will be on the scratch mark. The latter has recently arrived in Wellington and is the ex-New Zealand champion and record holder over this distance, so that the pace should be on all the way. Numerous other events comprise an attractive afternoon’s sport which will conclude with a polo match, Possibles v. Probables. The teams are: Possibles, Watson (Wellington), Leask, Blakeley, Cameron (2), Ryan and Co. Claridge; Probables. Sly, Eversleigh, Shannon, Mollier .Watson (Lyall Bay), and Murrell. Emergencies, Mason, Batchelor, Dudson, and Blakeney.
