BOATBUILDERS AND SHIPS’ CARPENTERS
NEW WELLINGTON AWARD FILED. The Wellington - Shipwrights, Boatbuilders and Ships’ Carpenters’ Award, filed yesterday in the Arbitration Court, and to which the Workers' Union, Messrs. Jenkins and Company, the Union Steam Ship Company, Wellington Patent Slip Company, and Messrs. S. Wood and Sou, are parties, provides for a 41-hour week, with a minimum rate of wages for journeymen shipwrights and boat- . builders of 2s. 4}d. per hour. Overtime rates are one and a half ordinary rates for . the first three hours, and thereafter double time. Double ordinary rates of pay are to be paid for work done on Sundays, New Year’sDay, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, King’s Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Anniversary Day. One shilling and sixpence per day extra is to be -paid for work aloft above the main' rigging. Wages for salvage work are a matter of arrangement. Nothing in the award applies to foremen. The award operates from December 23, 1026, to December 31, 1923. The rates of pay for ships’ carpenters! are fixed at £l7 4s. a month; during repair or overhaul, and when kept working by the ship on. sea-going wages, Bs. 6d. per day is to be paid for board allowance in addition to
the wages prescribed in the clauses. An eight-hoar day is provided lor, and overtime pay at 2s. 9d. an hour. Holidays and time off are also provided for. This award comes into operation on January 1, 1927, and continues to December 31, 11)28.
