LAWN TENNIS

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY DETAILS OF FIRST DAY’S PLAY The primary schools’ tournament was started on Saturday in a gale of wind, which made anything approaching good tennis almost impossible. Playing with the wind, it was difficult to keep the tyill jn court. Against the wind the full strength of the children, at times, was of no avail. s’he ball could scarcely be made to reach the net. On the Elizabeth Street school courts play had to be abandoned, while on the association grounds at Miramar umpires’ stools were blown down and the remainder were laid flat down on the ground lest a similar fate befall them Great credit is due to Messrs. W. J. Melody, Fisher and Paul and numerous other teachers that so many matches were got off under the conditions. BROUGHAM HILL CLUB.
