EXPLANATION DESIRED
The Mayor has emerged from the disputation over the Kent Terrace road-widening proposal with the honours of war. He now has the required authority to go ahead with his plans for the improvement of the roadway at the expense of the plantation reserve. It would seem, however, that the controversy which has raged on the subject has not completely cleared the air of misunderstanding. What exactly are the Mayor's plans? The Civic League, which apparently is in sympathy with Mr. Norwood's general intention to improve the roadway in question and has no objection to the narrowing of the reserve to attain this cud, professes to be somewhat in the dark as to what is about to happen. Citizens, the league says, are in doubt as to whether it is proposed to have one-way traffic or twoway traffic in the improved roadway when completed, or whether the increased road space is merely intended for parking purposes. The question is one of importance. It really goes to the root of the matter of whether the scheme will actually provide a solution oi the traffic|problem in the locality. The justification for, the Mayor’s proposed changes undoubtedly was improved traffic facilities, and before the work is put in hand it is desirable that any doubts which exist on the points raised should be removed. Mr. Norwood happens to be away from the city, but will return to-day, and presumably will take an early opportunity to make the position clear.
