“NO OVERTIME” STRIKE

9 CAUSING HEAVY LOSSES TO SHIPOWNERS WATERSIDERS NEGOTIATE WITH COMPANIES BT TBLECkAPH. —FBBSS ASSOCIATION. CoPtbigHt. Melbourne, December 4. Having disregarded Judge Beeby’s offer to hear its claims on condition that the men resume normal working, the Waterside Workers’ Federation is now making efforts to effect agreements with the different shipping companies by direct negotiation. Already agreements have been reached with two of the smaller companies, and the watersiders claim that they have been made on their terms. Heavy losses are being sustained by both shipowners and shippers. Owing to the "no overtime” strike, there are frequent delays in the sailings of steamers from various Australian ports, some being four days behind schedule time. Several coastal vessels have been laid up and the crews paid off.
