NEW CITY ENGINEER

WELCOMED BY COUNCIL. Mr. G. H. Hart, the new city engineer (from Leeds), took up his duties on Wednesday of this week. He attended his first meeting of the City Council last night, when a letter was received from Mr. Hart expressing thanks for the courtesy and kindness he had received from the Mayor, council, and others. , , The Mayor introduced the city engineer and said that he was sure the council would give him all the necessary support in the carrying cut of his varied duties. He hoped that Mr. Hart and his wife would bo very happy in Wellington. In reply Mr. Hart said he could only reiterate what he had said in his letter about the uniform kindness he had experienced since his arrival in Wellington. His position here was similar to what it had been when ho went to Leeds 21 years ago. He hoped that the council would never regret having appointed him city engineer of Wellington. (Applause.)
