Sydney, December 2.
A meeting of the marine transport, group of unions considered the serious position that has arisen throughout the Commonwealth as the result of the "no overtime” strike by the waterside workers.
The action of the wharf labourers was the subject of a bitter argument. The seamen stated that they would have, to forfeit a large sum of money, which they had given to the Industrial Commissioner as a guarantee’ that they would not participate in a strike, when the Commissioner granted registration to their union.
The meeting was adjourned until Monday next, when the whole matter will be referred to the Federal Disputes Committee.
(Rec. December 2, 9.50 p.m.) Melbourne, December 2. No change in the "overtime” strike is anticipated during the week-end, as the transport group of unions will not meet until Monday.
CRANE-DRIVERS’ STRIKE SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT (Rec. December 2, 9.5 p.m.) Sydney, December 2. A conference of the Newcastle cranedrivers and Mr Baddeley arrived at a settlement of the strike, and the men will resume work to-inorrow. The terms of settlement will be presented to a meeting of the men to-night for ratification.
TRADE DIVERTED FROM NEWCASTLE.
Sydney, December 2. As a result of the crane drivers’ strike there has been considerable congestion of Oversea steamers at Sydney. A number of them usually proceed to Newcastle for bunkers, but until the cessation of the strike they will have to coal here.
Practically alt the coal used for bunkering purposes in Sydney comes from, the South Coast mines, which are not affected by the strike.
THE YALLOURN DISPUTE
MORE HOPEFUL OUTLOOK.

As a result of developments there is a more hopeful outlook in regard to the Yallourn coal workers’ strike. An informal conference was held at the Arbitration Court between Judge Lukin and representatives of the Australian Workers’ Union. Representatives of the Electricity Commission were also present. Judge Lukin urged the union representatives to t-rv to induce the men to resume without further trouble, and after discussion they agreed to do so.
