EVIL INFLUENCE ON YOUTH Sydney. November ‘26 David Allen, who was tound guilt' in connection with the death ol James Riddell Burgess during a street gang quarrel, was sentenced to a year's im -prisonment, but the sentence was suspended under the First Offenders' Act The Judge remarked that he accept ed the contention of accused’s counsel that Burgess was influenced to some extent bv pernicious picture shows, at which lawlessness was presented as something to be admired, and where men who used revolvers and knives were held up as heroes. He said that these circumstances connect ed with picture shows were having an evil influence on the youth of the country.
