“NO OVERTIME” STRIKE

POSSIBILITY OF SETTLEMENT Melbourne, November 26. Although the compulsory conference in connection with the watersiders’ “no overtime” strike has not reached an agreement, efforts at conciliation may not be entirely fruitless as the outcome of an offer by Judge Bee by that it is still open for the Watersiders’ Federation to have its claims heard bv the Arbitration Court on condition that the men resume normal working forthwith. The Federal committee of management is at present meeting in Melbourne. It is considered probable that the committee will yet fall in with the suggestion of the Judge in order to restore harmony on the waterfront, and that it will' instruct its members in the various States to resume work. COMPLETE DEADLOCK. (Rec. November 26, 9.5 p.m.) Melbourne, November 26. A complete deadlock has arisen in ’ connection with- the watersiders’ dispute. There is. no possibility of a settlement at the week-end, but no likelihood of a direct extension of the dispute or hold up of shipping. INTER-STATE shipping- DELAYED (Rec. November 26, 11.45 p.m.) Sydney, November 26. The overtime strike -has greatly delayed inter-State shipping, and unless a settlement is effected the congestion wilt become acute within the next fortnight. The Ulimaroa, scheduled to sail for Auckland at 3 o’clock, had not completed loading then and was delayed for over two hours.
