THE JEW IN PROPHECY

The Rev. H. E. Wallis, M.A., eonliuued his lecture on "The Jew in I’ropliecy,” in the Marunutha Hall, 125 naiubton Quay, before u largo audience. “The whole history of this nation," said Mr. Wallis, "is miraculous. If can read the story of God’s dealings the Jewish people and still believe that there is no personal God, that He is only a force or a power radiating through the universe in the same way as electricity, then you must bo bereft oi every sense of proportion and unablo to draw any deduction. You must deny the evidence of your spiritual as well as your natural sense. The Jew has been a mighty blessing to the world, ami I behove that the principal reason of England’s triumphant greatness is that she of all the nations has been kind latterly to these much persecuted people. Every nation that raised its hand against the Jews paid a heavy price. That, said the lecturer, was a fact nf history which was incontrovertible. With regard to Ihe position of the Jew in the world, he added, “You will find that lie is foremost in the sphere of finance; in art, science, literature, ami statesmanship ho has always occupied a prominent place. With reference to the return of the Jews (o Palestine, .Mr. Wallis sai dlhat it was noteworthy that within three months from the day when General (now Lord) Allenby was used of God to set the land free. 1 here were over 200 Jewish colonies established, and one place in particular which, less than two years ago, was a barren patch of ground, wns to-day one of earth’s fairest cities with a population of 30.000. Everyone of those Jews was inspired by the hope that now their earthly kingdom was being restored to them., the Messiah would soon appear nnd therefore they must make the land fair and ready to receive Him. It wns wonderful to think, said the lecturer, that all that was happening to-dn.v in connection with these people had been foretold in the sacred scriptures, and we were now witnessing the fulfilment of prophecy.
