Dannevirke, November 25.

Dannevirke bowlers who won the Oxley Cup from Pahiatua last week were quickly called on to defend their title, the Eketahuna challengers coming to piny for the trophy on Wednesday. Dannevirke. however, defeated their opponents by 23 beads to 19. Bowlers from Eketahuna were Malcolm, Gooding, Stenberg, and SimpsOn, Killington, Herbert, Percy, and.Cowjam, while the cup was defended by Register, Fitzjohn, Osborn, and J. S. Williams, Howarth, Lippitt, Chick, and Greenwood. On the same day an interclub match between Woodville and Dannevirke on the latter’s green, three rinks each, resulted in a win for the home club by 79 to 50. Players and scores were: For Dannevirke, Weavers, Wright, J. Careton, Calder (s.), 27; Cromeliu, Englebretsen, Drummond, Bartlett (s.), F 4; and Gillespie, Daniel, Sinclair, Rankin (s.), IS. For Woodville, Galbraith, Norman, Sim, Mules (s.), 21; Henderson, McCormack, Bowman, Horne (s.), 13; Foote, Spackmann, Grinlinton, James (s.), 25. The Hinemoa Lawn Tennis Club played two outside clubs yesterday, but in each case suffered defeat. Representatives sent to Takapau were defeated by 15 sets to 9, the Dannevirke players engaged being Misses Tyson, McPherson, Foreman, Murcott, Tortt, and Crist, Messrs. D. Drummond. S. Anderson, A. E. Hendy, K. Morison, W. Dick, and F. Skinner. The other match was played on the local courts (asphalt) between Norsewood and Hinemoa. those representing Hinemoa being Misses J. Thorburn, Rankin, N. Foreman, T. French, Scott, and Mrs. James, Messrs. E. Gibbard, McWilliams. Soal, Vigers, Earle, and Cresswell. In this match also Hinemoa was outplayed, the laurels going to Norsewood by 13 to 11 sets. The fastest’ time in the recent ten-milo cycle race was made by A. J. Rossiter, Simin. 42sec. The winner’s (Drinkwater) actual riding time was 31niin. 45see. Playing for the Corbridge Stars, Mesdames Harris and Glass, of the Rangatira Croquet Club, defeated Mrs. Healey and Mrs. Kenyon, of Woodville, by 26 to 13. The Woodville challengers had a handicap of 1} bisques.
