POLICE AND SUMMONS CASES Mr. W. G. Kiddell, S.M., dealt with the police and summons cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Three Norwegian seamen, Angel August Pedersen (aged 23), Anne Larsen (aged 23), and Sigurd Moen (aged 20), who admitted secreting themselves on the s.s. Kurow from Lyttelton to Mellingtou without the consent of the ships master, were each ordered to pay •£!> the cost of their fare. William Darragh was fined ss. and costs for selling bread packed in such a way as to conio in contact .with dir j P3 For’failing to notify his change of address under the Arms Act, Charles 'Frederick Fowler was fined 10s. an u Connected on the charro, of assaulting Michael Blootnan by striking him with their fists, William Stevens, senior, and William Henry Stevens, junior, were each fined -£1 in default seven days imprisonment. , A- G. Barton was fined. XT and costs for employing a shop assistant after 6 P A*. E. Pountrey was convicted and ordered to pay 7s.'costs for failing to close his ship at the proper time. For failing to close her shop on the statutory half-holiday, Mrs. M. Bayes was convicted and ordered to pay <s. j "W. Cocksedge was fined 10s. and costs for failing to keep a proper wages and overtime book. C. P. Courbould was fined 10s. and costs for selling cigarettes, after hours, and a like amount for failing to close his shop on the statutory half-holiday. Mrs. M. Lowden was convicted and ordered to pay 7s. costs for selling cigarettes after hours. She was similarly dealt with for failing to close her shop

at 1 p.m. on a Saturday and G p.m. on a recent evening. Employing a girl under the age of 1G without first obtaining a certificate as to her fitness, resulted in the firm of Whitehead and Pears being fined dll and costs.

For failing to register a contract of an apprentice employed. H. Sundgren was fined 10s. and costs.
