PUBLIC HOSPITAL OVERCROWDED
MEANS OF RELIEF SOUGHT The accommodation at Wellington Hospital is now very severely taxed, and this state of affairs will no doubt continue until the new block is ready. To relieve the situation the medical superintendent (Dr. D. M. Wjlson) has suggested that the Red Cross ahd St. John’s Ambulance Societies should be approached with the view of their members working in conjunction with the hospital board in assisting cases of sickness that are not bad enough for hospital treatment. ( The proposal is that the: city and suburban areas be' divided into districts to each of which would be allotted members of the societies who would visit the patients referred to. There are people now in the institution who could probably return to their homes under such a system, and so relieve to some extent the present difficult period. Dr. Wilson’s suggestion was mentioned to the board at yesterday’s meeting, and will probably be further considered.
