"BRITISH GOODS ARE BEST”
USE OF SLOGAN ON LETTERS
Mr. R. Darroch, lion, secretary of the Wellington Navy League, has. received a copy of a letter .addressed to the Navy League in London by the British Post Office in answer to a communication from the league to the Board of Trade about the slogan “British goods are best” being used for the cancellation of postage stamps. The letter states that it is quite- un true that the legend ‘‘British goods are best,” now appearing on stamp cancellation marks is to be abandoned on account of objections raised by the Rotarv International, or any other association The position is that the Post-master-General proposes to utilise the dies of Post Office stamp-cancelling machines for commercial advertisement purposes, and this may involve the total or partial supercession of. the slogan.
