ASSISTANT TO ASSISTANT TOWN CLERK
Sir,—The decision of the City Council to make this appointment and. create this position at such an inopportune time has aroused much comment. With the arrival of the new town clerk, Mr. Norman, a few weeks hence, it would have been wiser if such an appoointment and position was necessary to have held it over for his endorsement. The reason for making an overseas appointment: was to »ec an officer unobtainable in the Doniinion. with large organising ability, so as to provide more economical administration. It is a bad start, when his office is loaded up a few weeks prior to his arrival, with an unnecessary assistant, at £l3 per week. It certainly appears to the average citizen that the Mayor, in making this appointment at such a time, has acted with undlua haste, before the arrival of the outsider. I a g’ A^ f '2sSED RATEPAYER.
