WILD ENTHUSIASM
BEAUTIES DEPART FOR WELLINGTON Dominion Special. Christchurch, October 27. Scenes of great enthusiasm marked the departure of the South Island beauties from Christchurch in the evening, thousands lining the route from Cathedral Square to the station. Miss Canterbury and Miss Otago broadcasted farewell speeches before leaving, after led by the Woolston Band, New Zealand’s champion combination, the .beauties left for the station to entrain for Lvttelton. Wildly enthusiastic scenes were witnessed all the wav and the roadway in front of the. railway station was one seething, swaying mass of humanity. Traffic inspectors and police officers had great difficulty in keeping the huge crowd under control, and the street scenes were reminiscent of the visit of the Prince ’of Wales. When the train carrying the beauties arrived at Lvttelton the girls were welcomed bv the Mayor at the port, after which thev left for the boat. The wharf was packed from end to end. Every available vantage point was occupied. The steamer moved off amid scenes of great enthusiasm.
