BANK OFFICIALS DEFRAUDED
LARGE SUM RECOVERED. (Rec. October 26, 10.35 p.m.) New York, October 25. Pittsburg reports an interesting sequel to the swindle by which a salesman succeeded in taking 425,000 dollars in cash from a group of bank officials, when the police traced funds to the salesman’s associate, and recovered 289,000 dollars buried near the latter’s home. Large denomination notes were stuck in milk bottles. The salesman, who was recently apprehended, declared that he was robbed while on his way to obtain the bonds. Hi’s associate, oh the other hand, claims that he had been entrusted with the funds, but when he discovered that these'had been obtained fraudulently he decided to bury them in- order to avoid trouble. More than 100,000 dollars are still missing.
