LEADERS TOYING WITH PEACE SUN’S OFFER TO RED COMMANDER BY TEEEGEAPn.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Copyright. Peking, October 25. The leaders in the Y’augtse \ alley war are still toying with peace. Suu Chuan Vang has notified Chiang Kai Shek, the Red commander, that he is agreeable to suspend hostilities provided that the Reds withdraw to Hankow and evacuate Ins domain, consisting of the five'south-east provinces, Anhwei, Fukien, Ktangsi, Chekiang, and Kiangsu. Since Chekiang’s unsuccessful revolt Sun’s prestige has been considerably enhanced, and the Reds have adopted a more cautious attitude. The officials of several Labour unions in the territory just outside the Shanghai foreign settlements have fled and their offices have been closed as the result of the declaration of special martial law, which is stricter than ordinary Chinese martial Jaw. The French ’ authorities have erected barbed wire barricades in the thoroughfares leading to Chinese territory.
