THE WELVE WELLINGTON FINALISTS IN GREAT BEAUTY CONTEST

MISS NEW ZEALAND BEAUTY CONTEST

POLL FOR “MISS WELLINGTON” CLOSES TO-DAY. VERY HEAVY VOTING YESTERDAY. To-day is the last day on which “DOMINION” subscribers can record their votes for the four finalists in the “Miss Wellington” provincial contest. The poll closes at 5 o’clock this evening. IN TO-MORROW MORNING’S “DOMINION” YOU WILL SEE THE FINAL RESULT OF THE VOTING. Yesterday was a busy day. All day long streams of voters bearing little bundles of voting coupons pressed into “THE DOMINION” office to deposit their votes. The mails from town and country alike also brought in hundreds of parcels and letters containing coupons. The returning officers, experienced men though they are, were fairly staggered at the heaps of votes piled up before them. At time of writing half-a-dozen weary men are still plodding along, calling over the votes and recording them to the credit of the various candidates. Early in the day the hundred thousand mark was passed, and there were still tens of thousands yet to count, quite apart from the final rush to-day. The interest in the final outcome is intense. Everywhere in city and countryside opinions are exchanged and speculation is rife as to who will be the lucky four finalists. When this page went to press last evening the leading candidates were as follow (with some thousands of votes still uncounted) : MISS EDWARDS ... t 24,437 MISS WILSON w .... 23,032 MISS DICK 22,061 MISS McCUBBIN 16,406 MISS HILL „ 12,968 MISS LESLIE 12,928 Miss McLeod and Miss Smidt are next on the list. All th e candidates have polled substantially. The votes so far counted total over 1 50,000; there are several thousands of coupons still to be counted, and all to-day's voting yet to come to hand.
