WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES There were no transactions yesterday at either the morning or afternoon calls. There was a good demand for Government stocks and bonds, with buyers of the 41 per cents, at £96 2s. b’d., the 5 per cents, at £99, and the 5j per cents, at 4:100 ss. Wellington Racing Club debentures were firm at <£lo6. Bank shares were in moderate request. There were buyers of Bank of New Zealand shares at 60s. 3d.. Bank of New Zealand rights at ss. lid., and Union Bank at 4:15 2s. 6d. Sellers quoted £l4 ss. for Bank of Australasia shares and £7 Is. for National Bank. New Zealand Guarantee Corporation shares were in demand, the ordinary at 10s. 3d. and the preference at 20s. 6d. -There was a bid of 16s. Id. for Wellington Gas preferences shares, and 6s. 3d. for New Zealand Refrigerating shares 10s. paid. P. and O. deferred stocks were in demand at 41250. For Westport Coal there was a bid of 375. and for Waipa Coal 15s. Levland and O’Brien Timber shares were firm at 40s. There were buyers of New Zealand Breweries shares at 515., Burns Philp and Co. at 395., Howard Smith at 31s. 9d., New Zealand Paper Mills at 19s. and Wilson's Cement at 335. 3d. DOMINION PICTURE THEATRES A net profit of <£4057 was earned by tlie Dominion Picture Theatres Company Ltd. for the year ended September 30, which contrasts with <£3879, the net profit realised last year, and <£3179 in 1924. With the amount brought forward, £352, there is available £4409, as against £4294. Out of this £lOOO has been added to the reserve fund as was the case last year. The dividend on the preference shares at 7J per cent, absorbs £276, and for the same rate of dividend on the ordinary shares £2666 was required. The balance of £467 is carried forward. The dividend has been maintained at 7$ per cent on both classes of shares for the past three years. SHARLAND AND CO., LIMITED The balance-sheet of Sharland and Co. Ltd. for the year ended August 31 last shows that the grass profits amounted to £50,887 as against £52,191 last year. Salaries, discounts, rates, general expenses, etc., absorbed . £41,217, against £39,801, provision for bad debts £298, against £595, and depreciation £330 against £324, these items totalling £41,815, against £40,720 and leaving the net profit at c£9o-12, against <£11,474. With, the amount brought forward from the previous year there was available for distribution £13,181 against £14,889. The dividend for the year at the rate of 7 per cent., of which 2| per cent, was paid as an interim dividend absorbs £8750, leaving £4431 to be carried forward. The dividend is the same as was paid last year, when £2OOO was added to the reserve fund. The reserve fund receives no accretion this year. The items of the balance-sheet with those for last year in parentheses are as follow: Liabilities —Capital paid-up £125,000 (£125,000); mortgages £23,750 (£23,750); bank overdraft, open liabilities and bills payable, etc., £28,148 (£33,532); reserve fund £12,000 (£12,000); profit and loss £10,056 (£9761). Assets: Stock in hand £96,934 (£102,833); book debts £51.645 (£50,917); plant and fixtures £5720 (£5949); freehold properties £42,178 (£42,178); cash in hand £659 (£713); bills receivable on hand £lBlB (£2356). Total £198,954 (£204,046). THE TUI BREWERY, LIMITED The balance-sheet of the Tui Brewery, Ltd. (Mangatainoka), for the year show’s a gross revenue of £15,939, which contrasts with £13,484, the gross income of the previous year. The expenses, including <£lBoo written off .for depreciation, totalled £6647 against <£5624, leaving the net profit at £9292, against £7861. There was brought into the accounts .£lBB2, making available £11,174. Out of this £4OOO has been added to the reserve fund, bringing that fund up to £7OOO, and the dividend for the year has been raided 2J per cent, to 12J per cent., and these results have been obtained in the third year of the company’s existence.
