BRIBERY CHARGES
“ARTICLE BASED ON RUMOUR" Sydney, October 16. Quentin Spudding, editor of the newspaper "Labour Daily, giving evidence before the Select Committee inquiring into allegations of bribery in regard to Labour members of Parliament, said that he had not taken steps to verily the information given him. However, lie was satisfied there was a plot. He had heard dozens of names connected with it. lhe attack was made against the Nationalists, not against caucus members. The article was not aimed at any individul, but at the danger that threatened the Labour Party. Arthur Roe, member of the. * Labour Daily” staff, and writer of the article concerned, said that the article was based on rumour and certain information given him. The plot was so commonly stated and rumoured by people connected with the Labour movement that it appeared to him there was a plot.
