The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) returned to Wellington oil Fridav. The Minister will leave for Hastings to-morrow, where be will meet the Fruitgrowers’ Association and attend the Hastings show. On Friday he will visit Napier. Mr. E. Bovle arrived by the Tamaroa on Saturday to take up’ the post of military secretary to His • Excellency the Governor-General.
The undermentioned officers of the British Army from India on exchange have been granted local rank in the New Zealand Permanent Forces, with seniority as shown:—Captain -A. S. Hooper’ (Wiltshire Regiment), November 18 WIL adjutant Ist Battalion (Canterbury Regiment, Christchurch) ; Captain G. Mcl. Bruce,.M.C. (Lincolnshire .Regiment), October 23, 1921, assistant area officer, area sa, Wellington; Lieut. S. Gibbons (Durham Light Infantry), August 27, 1917, area officer, 6B and adjutant, 6th N.Z. Mounted Rifles (Manawatu), Palmerston North.
The New Zealand superintendent for Messrs. Dalgfty and Co., Ltd., has been advised by cable that Mr. E. V. Reid, general manager of the company, has been offered and accepted a seat on the board of directors, with position 01 managing director. Mr. and Mrs. J. Barns-Graham and family, of Gisborne, returned to New Zealand by the Tamaroa on Saturday after an extended trip to the Old Country. Captain Eric Reeves, M.C., Ist Battalion Wellington Regiment, has been awarded the 16 years’ long and efficient service medal. Mr. A. F. Tonks left by the Marania on Friday to attend the Master Bakers’ conference in Sidney. He intends to visit Melbourne and 'will return in about four weeks.
Dr. and Airs. W. E. Collins arrived back in • Wellington on Saturday by the Tamaroa after an eight months’ sojourn in England. Constable V. Cosgrove, of the \\ ellington wharf police, who is about to transfer to Levin, was the recipient, on Saturday, of a bicvcle from the members .of’ the wharf police, waterfront Customs officers and members of the Harbour Board pilot staff. The death is reported at New Plymouth of Mr. Thomas Avery (aged 76). He was at one time part proprietor of the “Taranaki News,” and later carried rm a printing and stationery and bookselling business, state a Press Association message.
Mr. ami Mrs. F W. Downs were passengers bv the Tamaroa on its first trip to New Zealand. They were returning after an enjoyable four of England and the Continent. •'
