LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

A meeting of the council of the League of Nations’ Union was held on Thursday evening. In the absence of the presj-' dent, I?ev. Dr. Gibb, the chair was occupied by Mr. P. J. O’Regan, and there were ten other members present. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Rev. W. S. Rollings, who is suffering from serious illness. A report was given of the results of two afternoon • meetings for women, arranged respectively by Mrs. J. Caughley and Mrs. J. D. Gray. The speaker for the first was Mrs. John Hannah, and for the second Sir James Allen, who both spoke most interestingly on the League of Nations, the latter specially on what he had himself taken part in. From these meetings sixteen new members had been .obtained for the l League of Nations Union. An appeal for new members made at the annual meeting had resulted in more than a dozen others promising to become subscribers. A letter had been forwarded to the Prime Minister; just before his departure urging once again that New Zealand should bo represented at the conferences of the International Labour Organisation. Reference was made to a conference or representatives of bodies interested in the League of Nations which is to be held at Honolulu next January, at which it is hoped New Zealand will be represented. Should any of the members of the branches of the League of Nations intend to be in Honolulu at the time attending the conference of legal men from countries bordering on the Pacific (which is to meet in Honolulu nt the same time), they are. requested to communicate with the Dominion Council in Dunedin that thev may be formally accredited as representatives of the New Zealand League of Nations Union. Hospitality will, it is understood, be available in Honolulu for a limited number of delegates. . An interesting letter was received from Japan giving details of a “World Peace Society.” having a white flag as its symbol. which it is wished to hoist on tne summit of world-famed Mount Fuji as a starting point of our desire to co-operate with fellowmen who have thq same idea throughout the world.” The peace workers of the world are invited to join tins society of whose secretary the name and address can be learned by applying t 0 62 Nevay Road, Miramar.
