notes on the racing Dominion Special. Auckland, October 16. The spring meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club opened to-day in beauti- ■ ful weather and before a large attend■mce The course was in good order. The totalisator investments were not up to the first day of the spring meeting last season, there being a decrease I ° f £M waitemata HANDICAP. I The proceedings opened with the XV aitemati) Handicap, for winch Budget Galindo was just a bit better backed | than Miss Native, a mare which was

trained at Longburn, while Roma Bingen was next fancied. Miss Native and ; Good King broke badly at the start. Don Zolock was in charge over the final part, with Bridget Galindo aild Gold Sovereign handy. Bridget Galindo got blocked in on the rails, and Gold Sovereign went on to win by a length and a half from Don Zolock, with Bridget Galindo a head away third. The last-mentioned was very unluckv and should do better on the second dav. Lilydale and Peter McDonald were next. IMPROVERS’ HANDICAP. In the Improvers’ Handicap Pearl Coronado was a good favourite, with Harold Thorpe and Bawldy Locanda next fancied Profiteer caused a great deal of trouble at the start. Grattan Thorpe and Harold Thorpe were always in the picture. Approaching the straight for the last time Harold Thorpe drew away and was well clear of Grattan Thorpe, Jean Darling, and Coal Light. As they straightened up for home Harold Thorpe went on to win easily by a length from Grattan Thorpe and Jean Darling, who dead heated for second place. Coal Light was threequarters of a length away fourth, followed by Pearl Coronado, Uncle Bert, Billy Whizz, and Luvan. SPRING HANDICAP. The Spring Handicap was contested by a dozen and Kohara was a better favourite than Sea Pearl while Imprint, though on 108 yards, also had friends. Peterwah was the early leader but broke running into the straight the first time, and Kohara piloted the field past the stand from Sea Pearl, Lightin’, Peterwah and Goldman. When they came round again Kohara was about two lengths in front of Sea Pearl followed bv Goldman, Lightin’, Jewel and Peterwah. Kohara still had a good advantage as they raced along the back for the last time from Sea Pearl, and although the backers moved up they could never get up with the two leaders, Kohara and Sea Pearl, who enter--cd the straight in that order attended by Goldman and Jewel. In a good finish Sea Pearl got up in time to beat Kohara by half a length, with Jewel three and a half lengths further back, followed by Goldman, Peterwah, Dreamalion, and Imprint. ONEHUNGA HANDICAP. Sweet Memory was the only scratching for the Onehunga Handicap, and the public went for Nelson Ata, who comes from Christchurch, making him about £5OO better favourite than The Tiger, trained at Hawera, while Trampfast was next in request. Nelson Ata and Golden Gate were the pilots for the greater portion of tbe distance. The latter broke frequently, but soon settled down again. My junior was handy to this pair practically all the way. Coming across the top the last time Golden Gate headed Nelson Ata and nothing had a chance with him for he beat My Junior easily by three lengths, with The Tartar threequarters of a length away third. Nelson Ata was fourth, with Peter Dean and Festive Morn next. OCTOBER HANDICAP. All paraded for the October Handicap and Logan Lou was entrusted with about £350 more than All Bell, while the bracket Ben Lomond and Wallroon also had friends. Ben Lomond led past the stand from Master Councillor, All Bell, Hughie. Wallace and Landlord. Along the back Ben Lomond was still in being attended by Master Councillor, Landlord, All Bell, Hughie Wallace, Wallroon, and Logan Lou. Logan Lou started to move up before the top was reached, and just before entering the straight was running third to "Ben Lomond and Master Councillor. However, she broke badly and Ben Lomond was the first to turn for home from- Master Councillor and All Bell. Ben Lomond went on to win bv two lengths from All Bell, who beat Hughie Wallace by a length and a half. Landlord was a neck away fourth, followed bv Wallroon, Dreamalion, and Oakhampton, the latter three being almost in line. Logan Lou was next.

STEWARDS’ HANDICAP. Ten faced the starter for the Stewards’ Handicap, and most support went to Yenot, Marshal Neil, and Money Spider. When they canie round the second time Marshal Neil was in charge from Money Spider, Scandal, Yenot, Uncle Bert, and Jewel Pointer. The order remained unchanged along the back, but across the top Money Spider closed on Marshal Neil and was on his wheel as thev turned for home with Scandal next, while the others were were well beaten. Monev Spider headed Marshal Neil in the straight and beat him home bv one length and a half. Scandal was threequarters of a length back third two lengths ahead of Yenot, with Uncle Bert. Jewel Pointer, Florent and Boston Chimes next.

MOUNTAIN TROT HANDICAP. In the Mountain Trot Handicap, Waikaha was looked upon as a good thing and he carried about £5OO more than Money Spider, who was making his second appearance in two consecutive races, the hrmdicapper penalising him 12 vards for his "win just previously. Proud Ata was most fancied of the others. Ngatira and Waikaha were together entering the straight where Monev Spider was handy. In a good finish Waikaha got the decision by a neck from Ngatira, - who beat Money Spider bv a head. Charles Dixie was fourth, followed bv Proud Ata and Wild Nut. ELECTRIC HANDICAP. The programme concluded with the Electric Handicap in which Arran Chief, Pearl Coranado, and Nelson Fame were in demand. The last-nam-ed failed to go away properly and lost a good deal of ground. Typist was first to turn for home from Grattan Thorpe, Arran Chief, and Nelson Fame. Arran Chief then took charge and stalling off a challenge by Nelson Fame won bv half a length. Typist was a length awav third, a similar distance in front of Grattan Thorpe. Then came Jean Darling and Liberate.
