.. OFFICIAL OPENINGS Although fine, the conditions were very blustery for the official opening of the season for the Wellington, Mitcheiltown, and St. Augustine’s (j’etono) Clubs. WELLINGTON CLUB. There was a large attendance of members and visiting players for the opening of the Welington Club. Mr. W. J. Melody addressed those present briefly, an dtiien presented the club championship cup for the 1925-20 season to Miss M Tracy. Mr. G. N. Goldie welcomed Mr. and Mrs W. J. Melody back to New Zealand after their stay in England. He then hit the first ball over the net. ST. AUGUSTINE'S CLUB. PETONE. The Municipal Band was in attendance for the official opening of the St. Augustine's Tennis Club, rrtone. a newly-formed club, and regaled the large number of people present tor the ceremony with musical selections. F S Williams referred to the difntu’lties that had to be overcome before tin) courts were coin plot ecu and paid a tribute to the great work of Mesdames Knit and Winter, who had been elected the first life member;’ of the chib. Mr. House hit the first ball over the net, and rhe courts were declared open. COVERED COURTS CHAMPIONSHIPS SEMI-FINAL RESULTS. (Rec. October 17. 11.5 pin.) London. October 16At the Queen’s Club, the British covered courts championships resulted:— Semi-finals.—D. Greig beat M Sleem, 6—4, 6—5; Borotra beat Crole Rees, 6—3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3; Miss P. Saunders heat Mrs Hill, 6—2. o—6, 7_5; Miss M Dix bent Miss J. Ridley, I; Borotra beat Greig, 6—3. 6—2 6—i; Miss Saunders beat Miss Dix, 5—4, 6-4.
