- - GROUSE IN NATIONAL PARK . In an interview with Mr. J. B. Thompson, the chairman of the Tongariro.National Park Board, reference was made to a published statement that thirteen grouse had arrived in New Zealand for liberation in the Tongariro National Park.- Mr. Thompson stated that in 1924 the- board had passed a resolution that no birds or animals be introduced into the park, or trees or plants planted, or seeds sown, without a resolution of: the board N 6 application had been received with respect to the liberation of the game birds referred to, and it was quite clear that they would not be liberated in the park bv any member or officer of the board “I cannot understand,” Mr. Thompson said, "how the statement came about, anil certainly the board had no knowledge of the intention to liberate. If game birds are brought into the country in accordance with the provisions of the Animals Protection , and Game Act, th<? board cannot, of course, prevent tiie same being liberated within the various acclimatisation districts, but the board will not sanction the liberation of such birds within the boundaries of the park with the present resolution on the minute book,”
