SCHOOL COMMITTEES
' MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Wellington School Committees' Association was held last night, Mr. A. Parlane presiding. Tn reply to letters from the association In reference to the appointment of a representative on the proposed curriculum committee, communications were received from associations at New Plymouth. Whangarei, Auckland, and Blenheim, favouring the appointment of Mr. A. Sanilo. of Wellington, on behalf of the combined school Committee associations. In addition to favouring the appointment of Mr. Sando as a member Of the curriculum committee, the Auckland Association suggested that (hero should also be a committee for each centre to advise on the curriculum, and. on the motion of Mr. L. Hennessy, seconded by Mr W H. Sadd. it wns decided to offer to assist tho Auckland Association in nnv representations made on the matter. In connection with the disposal of school requisites, it was decided to ask the 'Headmasters’ Association if it was possible to establish co-operation in the distribution of the stationery question. The secretary reported on the supnly <>f school stationery to necessitous children and road particulars of whet wns muvided free By the Education Department in certain cases. Mr. Sndd urged that the provision required amending so that’ every article required bv a child for its education should, if necessary, bo provided free, including text books, nnn it WPS decided to mnlre representations to the Minister of Education accordingly. . . , Mr. J. R. Salt moved that it was not desirable that oursida organisations should bo allowed to use the primary schools for propaganda purposes. Air L Hennessv seconded the motion on the ground that it wns not. wise to fliiow the schools tn ho used for other then educfttional hnrposes. "Mr. Comi-io (Eastbourne Committed, who was a strong supporter of the Nary lA’nvno and ll* propaganda, opposed tho that the Nnyv League stood for tile protection of the hearth and home. Mrs Bromley supported the motion, although n member of the Longue of Nations, nnrl rejected the idea that she was dislovaL . . , The secretary (Mr. Tngram) preferred Hint the motion should be made more definite, although he onnrwcfl the -ichoois bo’ng used for propaganda purposes. Tho chairman considered the schools should be used fOr educative r>urpo«o« oniv but it was not advisable thnt they should bo (Ko vehicle for the conveyance cf special propaganda. The motion wns eventually carried. Mr. Simpson brought up the question of the aeommodntion for retardate children at Mount (look School which building, ho said, was not fit for a stable. He until a tribute to the Education Deiiartnient tor the class of teacher provided for the special classes, but contonded thnt the building accommodation was unfit tor the purpose used. Mr. Sn'dd strongly supported the statements made, and moved that the Minister be asked to proceed with the erection of a now infant school at Mount Cook as soon as possible. Mr. Ingram brought up the question of the overcrowding at the Island Bay School, and pointed out that pupils had to be refused admission to the school owfne to the want of acoinmodation. rip si rough- urged thnt representations should bo made to the Minister of Educatlo*. and provision bo niade for extra accommodation.
