BOWLS
JOHNSONVILLE CLUB. In spite of rough weather, there was a large gathering of ladies, visitors and members at Johnsonville tn Saturelay afternoon, when the president, Mr. W. J. Carman, performed tho opening ceremony. Mr. Carman, in welcoming the visitors, referred to tho bright prospects for the coming season, which were in marked contrast to prevailing weather conditions, and took the opportunity of thanking those ladies who had assisted the club by providing afternoon tea throughout the past season, also announcing that it had been decided bv the directors of the club that portion of the green should be available for play by the ladies one afternoon in each week', when members would be present to give instruction. He also hoped that following the precedent set in previous years, a special ladies’ day would be held on the green later in the season. After'expressing regret that the exceptionally heavy -ain had made play impossible, Mr. Carman declared the green open for the season and called upon Mrs. Carman to throw up tho ' first, jack. 2. . • ", After those present had been entertained nt afternoon-tea by-the president and Mrs. Carman, .an enjoyable afternoon was spent socially.
LOWER HUTT CLUB. There was a good attendance at the opening of the Lower Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club’s grounds. The president (Mr. H. Brooks), in a happy speech, wished members an enjoyable and successful year. A number of visitors from other clubs were amongst those present. |
