EDUCATION GRANT
MOST DESERVING CASES CONSIDERED FIRST.
Dominion Special. Christchurch, September 30. Replying to a request for extensions to be made to the Christchurch Technical College to-day, the Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) said he was in very much the same position as the mother with a Christmas pudding which had to go round a large family. Those who deserved expenditure most should have the first consideration. Christchurch Technical College was.one of the finest in the Dominion, and there were several others which had just as pressing requirements. Most of the boys in the school hoped to become tradesmen, and there was nothing to be ashamed of in this. The girls were also learning useful arts. There were plenty of openings in the world, particularly for those efficient at their work to follow. The calling which they liked should be their object. He had a great deal of time for sound tech nical tradesmen, and the hours put in bv them at learning handicrafts were well spent. New Zealanders were inclined to roam and tradesmen could always travel, since they could find fresh openings for themselves.
