MERE BIRTHRATE FIGURES NOT A TEST DEATH STATISTICS MORE VITAL NEW ZEALAND’S HIGH STANDING Sir Arbuthnot Lane. the famous surgeon, says mere Birthrate figures are ceasing to be regarded as a test of a nation's virility, declaring that quality is more important, and that death statistics are more vital than birth. Tested by these, he declares, New Zealand stands highest in the world. BY Telegraph.—Press Association. COPYRIGHT. London. September 28. “Mere birthrate figures are erasing to be regarded as a test of a nation’s virility,” says _ Sir Arbuthnot Lane, in an article in the “Daily Mail.” “Nations are learning that quality is more important; also that death statistics are more vital than birth. “Tested by these causes. New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Canada, in that order, stand easily highest in the world. The moral is clear. The peoples of the Dominions live nearer to Nature, both in working and feeding. The whole world knows their high standards of social welfare. Moreover, in .addition to what their alert intelligence and natural fortune has brought them, they are bold enough to accept the latest teaching regarding health.” Sir Arbuthnot Lane enthusiastically cites New Zealand's Director of Health (Sir Truby King) respecting air, sunlight, sleep, exercise, fruit, vegetables, and dairy produce. There is abundant proof that the same, results are achievable in Britain. —Sydney “Sun” Cable.
