Dominion Special. Wanganui, September ‘29. The Wanganui Education Board is faced with a big building programme nt various schools in tho district., owing to (lie rapid increases in attendance. One of the first local schools to receive attention owing to congestion will be Wanganui East. The board have also in view the purchase of an area c.f ground in the locality to accommodate school buildings. The installation of a steam-beating plant at the Wanganui Hospital, now under way, will cost £15,000. In order to carry out the scheme it was necessary to tunnel under the buildings. The Metropolitan Rugby Sub-Union has resolved to call tenders next week for alterations to Spriggens Park. Provision is marie for removal of the present stand to a position alongside the racecourse, and tho two grounds at present in use will be rearranged. In the new stand will be provided plenty ot dressing accommodation, ami rooms for referees, ambulance, the committee, etc.

It is suggested that tho 1929 band contest be held in YVanganrn. For 16 years no band contest has been held here. The suggestion emanated from the Garrison . Band’s annual meeting, when the president (Mr. J. Crichton) recommended that Ihe matter be commended to local citizens.

Keen interest is being taken in the Empire Week display for next week. Sixty-nine windows have been entered in competition. • The season’s Rugby football will end on Saturday with a match between Ihe inter-club cimmnions of Ihe Rangitikei taib-T:nion nnrl Pirates, winners of the Metropolitan Suh-Union senior honours If both teams are at full strength, the game sho”ld bo one of Ihe best of the season.
