PROFITS OF RUGBY TOURS
NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM’S VISIT TO BRITAIN — ONE-SIDED ARRANGEMENT BY Telegraph.—press Association. Copyright (Rec. September 22, 7.35 p.m.) London, September 21. The “Evening News” states that the International Rugby Board’s comI mittee arranging the New South Wales | tour is budgeting for £16,000 to cover the expenses, which must be realised before anything is available for the home clubs and unions, but a large surplus is anticipated. It points out that in view of the team’s increased travelling expenses, it is unlikely the British clubs and unions will divide such a large profit as from tlie New Zealand 1924-25 tour, which realised £21,000 There is certain to be Australian and New Zealand criticism over the home clubs and unions taking the whole of the profits. It is true the overseas unions agreed that the visitors should not participate in the profits, but when they agreed that the neither Australia nor New Zealand contemplated that Britain would not reciprocate by sending a team overseas. It is estimated that as a result of the arrangement the English and Irish clubs will benefit to the extent of £30,000 from the two tours, whereas New South Wales and New Zealand, whose teams brought this money, will not benefit a penny. It is fair criticism to say that this is altogether onesided.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.
