SECOND DEMONSTRATION CONCERT The Town Hall was crowded last night, when the second demonstration concert, under the auspices ot the Competitions Society, was given. Items from all classes, vocal, instrumental, elocution, and dancing, brightened the hours of those who were fortunate enough to bo in attendance. During the evening many beautiful bouquets were presented to the performers. The programme was as under:—Piano solo (Bristol scholarship), Miss Joyce Downing; juvenile choir, Guilford Terrace School; skipping dance, Miss Lindsay Greig; recitation, George Power; duet in character, Misses Q. McLean and M. Windsor; Navy League recitation, Miss Evelyn Wright; bass solo, Mr. A. Cadman; recitation (society s scholarship), Miss Anita Winkel; combined ballet “Tarantella”; mezzo-soprano sacred solo, Miss Eileen Warnqck; flute solo, Mr C. Tucker; recitation (society’s scholarship), Miss G. Kerr; too dance, Miss Phyllis Colwell; vocal solo (society s scholarship), Mr. A. Lungley; female voice choir, Lakomai Choir; violin solo, Miss M. Michelson; contralto solo, Miss Holly Power; musical monologue, Mr. O. Warnock; vocal duet, Messrs. Robin and Svenson; Shakespearean recitation, Miss D Vautier; soprano solo, Mrs. Rosenthal; Irish song, Mr. A. Lungley; humorous recitation, Errol Muir; tenor solo, Mr. H. Franklyn; dance duo, Misses Hekcta and Hales; vocal solo, ■Miss Elsie Ives; recitation in character, Mr. Ronald Foster; Yiano solo, Miss DRAMATIC ‘ AND VOCAL RECITAL On Tuesday and Wednesday next at the Town Hall the competition judges, assisted by Madame Bennett North and Mrs. John H. Hopkins, will give two combined recitals. A different programme will be presented each evening. Among the items to be rendered will be scenes from “King Richard the Third" and “King John.” dramatic and humorous recitals and humorous child impersonations. Mr. Bennett North will introduce Madame Bennett North, dramatic contralto, in vocal numbers, with short explanatory introductions. Among the items will bo “Segnidille” (“Carmen”), Old English numbers such as “O, No. . John.” “Pretty Polly Oliver,” etc. Mr. Bennett North will also play a sonata by Greig, the only one written by that composer. Of Madame Bennett North the London “Times” says: “She sang the solo parts admirably. She has got the temperament necessary for this exacting Wagnerian music.” The Melbourne “Age” says: “Mr. John TI. Hopkins is a finished elocutionist, tragic and humorous; a fact which he effectively demonstrated.”
