PASSED AT BRISBANE CONFERENCE NEXT AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS (Rec. August 16, 11.15 p.in.) Brisbane, August 16. A conference of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia and New Zealand was held to-day, and was attended by delegates from all the States. Mr. R. Coombcs, who was re-elected president, was in the chair. The following Australasian records were passed :— Three Miles’ Running.—R. A. Rose (N.Z.), 14min. 45 l-ssec. Throwing the Javelin. —S. A. Lay (N.Z.), 187 ft. 7jin. Mile Run.—R. A. Rose (N.Z.), 4min. 13 3-ssec. 220,Yards Running (straight course). —Jackson Scholz (U.S.A.), 21 2-ssec. 100 Yards.—Jackson Scholz (U.S.A.), 9 4-ssec. The application for the hammerthrowing record by Merchant, established in Wellington, and rejected by the Hobart conference, was reconsidered and passed. It was decided to ask the New Zealand Association, if possible, to hold the next Australasian championships in December, or early in January. A motion was passed asking the Australasian Union, if possible, to arrange a tour of overseas athletes in the coming season. It was decided to include a running hop, step and jump event in the championship programme. It was decided to request the English Amateur Athletic Association to set up a small body in England to establish a system of British Empire records. The reinstatement rules were amended to provide that any case may be declared a special one by a three-fourths vote of an association, by reason of any unusual or exceptional circumstances, and may be referred to the executive of the union, which shall have power either to reinstate or to postpone or reject the application on such terms as the union thinks fit. Minor motions brought forward by New Zealand were carried.—Press Assn.
