INFECTIOUS DISEASES
SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE A decrease of 11 on those of the previous seven days is shown in the number of cases of infectious diseases reported to the district health authorities for the week ended at noon yesterday. The Central Wellington return shows only one case so far .as pneumonia is concerned. In the TaranakiHorowhenua district, however, pneumonic influenza has increased from two cases to seven. In Wairarapa-East Cape pneumonia has decreased, by eight cases, though pneumonic influenza lias increased to the extent of two cases. Nelson-Marlborough, which showed five cases during the previous seven days, is free from this complaint this week. A detailed statement of the cases reported from the various hospital districts is as follows, the figures for the previous week being given in parenthesis: Taranaki-Horowhenua: bcarlet fever 1 (10); diptheria 2 (3) ; tuberculosis 1 (1) ; pneumonia 8 (4) ; pneumonic influenza 7 (2) ; erysipelas 1 (1) ; opthalmia neon, 1 (0). Total, 21 (21). Wairarapa-East Cape: Scarlet fever, 2 (4); diphtheria 6 (2): tuberculosis, 5 (2) ; pneumonia, 4 (12) ; pneumonic influenza, 4 (2) ; puerperal lever, 1 (0) ; enterie fever, 0 (1) ; erysipelas, 0 (2) septicaemic influenza, 0 (I); cerebrospinal meningitis, 0 (1). Total, 22 (27). Central Wellington.—Scarlet fever, 5 (8) • diphtheria, 5 (3) ; pneumonia, 1 (]) ; tuberculosis, 0 (5). Total, 11 (17). Nelson-Marlborough.—Scarlet fever, 1 (0) ; diphtheria, 1 (0) ; pneumonic influenza, 0 (5). Total, 2 (5). Grand total 56 (70).
