POLICE OASES. Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt witii the police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. . Frederick Taylor was fined £l, in default seven days’ imprisonment, for a breach of his prohibition order. For drunkenness he was fined 10s., in default seven days’ imprisonment. For fighting in the street, Herbert William George Wheeler, and Eden Jess Morris were each fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment. Louis Gestro, alias LuJu Gestro, was fined £1 for a breach of his prohibition order, and 10s. for drunkenness. The default in each case was fixed at. seven days’ imprisonment. Phoebe Maria Welsh Ingram, a domestic (aged 17), who admitted four charges of stealing clothing, together with one diamond ring, valued in all at £33 25., was convicted, am] placed on probation for two years. Accused, w)io had taken tho goods from boardinghouses in the city, where she had been residing, was ordered to return home and stay with her father at Nelson. ‘The female probation officer has recommended probation in this case, with some hesitation, and it is with hesitation that I propose to grant it,” remarked His Worship to two girls, aged 18 and 19 respectively, who appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing miscellaneous acticles, valued at £3, tho property of Flora Clarke. Accused, who were placed on probation for two years, were told that they could not stay out after 9 p.m., unless in the company, of persons recommended by the probation officer. They were also ordered to keep awnj' from.'bad company and dance halls during that period. Owing to the youth of tho offenders, the Magistrate ordered the suppression of their names. Edward Mahcod, a labourer (aged 18), who came before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., on five charges of wilful and obscene exposure at Petone, was convicted' and ordered to bo detained in a Borstal institute for two years.
