Tho weekly meeting of the Wellington Rugby Referees' Association was held last night, the president (Mr. T. A. Fletcher) presiding over a good attendance, . Copies of referees' report concerning the ordering off of players were received, and a discussion ensued on the attitude adopted by soma coaches towards reforces* Mr. A. W. Travers read a paper on various points in connection with the rules of the game, dealing chiefly with wing-forward and line-out play. Mr. Travers contended that the laws were not enforced strictly, enough against wing-forwards, who' did not retire with the ball. Ho also stressed the point that referees should exercise their con. trol over the language of some of the junior teams, not only on the playing field, but also in the dressing sheds. An animated discussion followed on one point Mr. Travers rajsed as to whether a placer who is placing the ball for a kick at goal after a mark or try, is entitled to replace the ball if, when he puts it down, it does not rest just as desired. The general opinion expressed was that the placer could do so, but that the, opposing side were entitled to continue to charge. This point, however, was referred to the N.Z.R.R.A. for a ruling.
