POLICE CASES Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning. For assaulting Goorgo Guy, Sydney Daniel Richardson was fined ,£l, in default seven days’ imprisonment. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. James Stock, who admitted being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. For a second offence of drunkenness, John Williamson, a seaman (aged 27), was fined <£l. Margaret McHugh, alias Hargreaves, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment- on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person. For drunkenness she was convicted and discharged. Admitting a seventh offence of drunkenness, Edith Hunt was ordered to be detained on Pakatoa Island for 12 months. For a breach of her prohibition order she, was convicted and discharged. Michael Melville, a second offender for drunkenness, was fined 10s. A remand until July 21 was granted in the case of Percy Cashman, an engineer (aged 35), who was alleged to have made a false declaration by purporting a certain letter to bo signed bv Thomas McGrath. ‘William Peter Ellis Groom was remanded until this morning for sentence on n charge of obtaining credit amounting to £1" 16s. from John Robert Foster at Wanganui by falsely representing that he belonged to the firm of Gollau and Co. SATURDAY’S CASES. Saturday morning’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M.. ' On a. charge of vagrancy, William Wilson was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. Benjamin Bernard Whitburn was fined «£2| in default seven days’ imprisonment, on a charge of fighting in the street. On a charge of being an idle and disorderly person he was convicted and discharged. On a charge of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support, Florence Emery, alias Kirkcaldie, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
