NEXT SEASON’S PAVING

LOCAL HIGHWAYS BOARD’S PROGRAMME At the last meeting of the City and Suburban Highways Board, Mr. Hoggard asked what was the paving programme for next season as far as the board was concerned. The city engineer’s reply was that the rest of the scheduled piogramme would be carried ■ This consists of the completion of th* main Hutt Road, from the termination of the permanent pavement north of Lower Hutt up to the laita Gorge and from the northern end of the Gorge’ Road to the bitumen at Heretaunga; the main road, Petonc. to the pipe bridge; and the completion of the Dav’s Bav road to the boundary of Eastbourne. The mam road through Eastbourne to Muritai was also to have been paved, but for reasons already given that work has been postponed for at least a year. These works will keep the plants at Petone and Trentham going for most of the season, and there is still a possibility that Camp Road (leading from the main Hutt Road to Trentham camp apd the racecourse) may also be included in the programme. The work in Wellington city as far as the local Highways Board is concerned, has been finished, with the possible exception of the main road to Seatoun. Other, work to be (from the Rongotat plant) will be Wakefield Street, the remainder of Clvde Ouav, Coutts Street east, the Island Bav Parade, Broadway (Miramar), and possibly Abel Smith Street.
