TRADITIONS DEFIED

RECENT SCENES IN HOUSE OF COMMONS London, July 9. Arising out of recent scenes in Parliament,'' Mr. E. Craig (Crewe) and other Conservatives have tabled a motion regretting the recent and constant defiance of traditions which has impaired the dignity of the House of Commons, and promising loyally to support those responsible for guiding the procedure in not deviating from the application of the rules, which were the result of nan; generations of experience. Lord Hugh Cecil (Oxford University) tabled an amendment to the Labour motion on the subject of Ministers and Directorships. The amendment declares that while willing on a suitable occasion to inquire into the established rules and practice governing the subject, which all the present Ministers had always strictly observed, the House declines to accept the present inquiry, which would be a concession to an organised campaign of calumny and insinuation which the facts did not justify.—Ans.-N.Z.
